New Delhi:The morning begins for many people with checking notifications, rushing through breakfast or immediately diving into work. While these habits may seem harmless, they can leave the mind feeling scattered and the body low on energy before the day has properly started.
Dr Partap Chauhan, Founder & Director of Jiva Ayurveda, states that the energy levels of a person are majorly influenced by the activities a person does in the first few hours after waking up. He thinks that simple yogic exercises with good morning routines can make a big difference to how well you feel and how well you perform through the day.
1. Start your day with some stretching
After hours of sleep the body is often stiff and sluggish.
Dr Chauhan recommends a few minutes of gentle stretching to start the day. Stretching improves blood circulation, loosens muscles and prepares the body for the activities ahead.
2. Practice deep breathing exercises
A deep breath is a key component in many yoga practices.
Deep breathing techniques like abdominal breathing are recommended by the expert. These exercises can help increase the flow of oxygen throughout the body and calm the nervous system.
3. Add Sun Salutations to your routine
Sun Salutation or Surya Namaskar is still one of the most popular yoga sequences.
It’s movement with controlled breathing, with more than one muscle group being used at the same time. "This practice can help activate the body, improve flexibility and support higher energy levels throughout the day," says Dr Chauhan.
4. Take a few minutes to meditate
If you’re constantly swamped with daily responsibilities, meditation could be helpful.
Meditation for a few minutes can help calm the mind and prepare it for the day ahead. “Regular meditation may help with emotional wellbeing and help people respond better to everyday challenges,” says Dr Chauhan.
5. Don't rush your morning
Many people switch from one activity to another immediately after waking up.
Waking up a little earlier and giving yourself time to ease into the morning can help reduce stress and improve productivity throughout the day, says the Ayurvedic expert.
6. Consistency is more important than duration
A common misconception about yoga is that you need long sessions to benefit.
But Dr Chauhan points out that regularity often matters more than the length of the practice. A short routine done regularly can, over time, help with energy, flexibility and mental clarity.
