Trying to choose between dancing and gym workouts? Doctor explains what suits you best
New Delhi:

Being fit is a must for most people now. Given how life is structured, you really have to plan movement into your day. People usually have two options when they do decide to work out. Dance or gym. And then the trouble begins.

There is no one right answer here. Both have a place. Both are working. “It really depends on what you want and what you can stick to,” said Dr. Sunil Rana, Associate Director and Head, Internal Medicine (Unit III), Asian Hospital. Physical activity can be dancing or exercise at the gym. The key is consistency. The best workout is the one you enjoy and can stick to,” he explains. That’s where most decisions should begin.

Dancing is often treated like a fun activity, but it works as a full-body workout. Zumba, hip-hop or classical forms, it keeps the body active and is good for heart health.

  • Improves heart health and stamina
  • Burns a lot of calories
  • Improves flexibility and coordination
  • Lowers stress and makes you feel better.
  • “It’s great for people who get bored with the gym routine. “Keeps the mind active and the body fit,” he says. It is also good for mental health as it releases endorphin’s which can reduce anxiety and low mood.

How do workouts at gym benefit?

Workouts at the gym are more structured and targeted. Including strength training, lifting weights and doing exercises that target specific muscle groups.

  • * Help you build muscle mass and strength
  • Good plans to help you lose weight
  • Boost bone density
  • Body parts to target when you work out
  • “If you want to build muscles, tone the body or lose weight precisely, then the gym is a good place to be,” he explains. It also allows for a gradual increase in intensity, which is important for long-term progress.

So, which is best for weight loss?

Dancing and gym workouts are both ways to lose weight, but in different ways.

Dancing is more cardio and burns more calories.

The gym combines cardio with strength training which helps to boost metabolism.

“The best for weight loss are both cardio and strength training. “So, even if you like dancing, adding some resistance training can improve the results,” says Dr. Rana.

    What do you choose?

It depends on what you want and what you like.

  • Dancing is a fun and stress relieving thing to do.
  • Choose your gym if you are looking for muscle building or specific fitness goals
  • If you can combine both for better results
  • What is the last thing to remember?

Again, no clear winner between dancing and gym workouts. Both are good in their own ways. What is most important is consistency.

People quit their fitness routines because they don’t like them. Dancing or gym, the best choice is the one that keeps you motivated and active every day,” he concludes.

Ultimately, fitness isn’t about picking the right workout. it’s about choosing what works for you and sticking to it.
