A woman who says she has lost 30 kg has shared some candid advice for people beginning or already navigating their. Instagram user snimsdiary believes one of the most effective ways to stay focused is to keep your goals, plans and progress private.
In a video posted on Instagram, she says, “The second people see that you are getting more disciplined and you are sticking to your goals, people’s reactions around you change.
‘Don’t tell anyone your goals.
She shares what she calls the “single greatest advice” she can give someone on a weight-loss journey. “Move silently,” she says.
“Don’t tell anyone about your goals, about your journey, about your plans, “Don't tell nobody nothing,” she says.
“When you tell people you want to lose weight or make lifestyle changes, they might be excited and supportive initially,” she said. But she thinks the reaction can change when they see you doing it consistently.
“One drink can’t hurt”
“The pressure can start to build when people see somebody doing something different every time,” she says.
“As soon as you start showing up regularly, as soon as you start coming out with the changes, as soon as you start being the disciplined version of yourself, people may start to encourage them to make exceptions, as soon as you like,” she says.
She gives examples of comments like, “One drink won’t hurt, one cupcake won’t hurt, this dessert won’t hurt.
She also remembers people asking her why she was being “so uptight” or taking her goals “so seriously”.
‘It’s that real and it’s that deep.’
“There’s also the pressure of comments saying someone is ‘too thin’ or taking their goals too seriously,” the Instagrammer says. “It’s not a big thing. “It’s not that deep,” she says of what people might say to someone in transformation.
“But it is. It’s that serious and it’s that deep,” she says. For her, a person’s decision to stay committed to a goal is a personal decision and outside opinions should not derail a person’s progress.
“It makes people uncomfortable.”
The woman also shares her own thoughts on why people might try to discourage someone who is making a change to their habits. “I realized it makes people uncomfortable when they see someone else doing the things they wish they could or they had the discipline to,” she says.
She adds that taking personal goals seriously can sometimes “ruffle a lot of feathers” especially when people around you are not making those changes. So her advice is to be selective about who knows about your journey.
‘Peer pressure shouldn’t derail your progress
She suggests keeping the journey private or sharing it only with those who truly have your best interests at heart. “Don’t let peer pressure ruin all your progress, she says.
She also discourages putting people who aren’t trying to better themselves between someone else’s efforts. Ultimately, her message is about boundaries and the importance of staying focused on personal goals. She has lost 30kg herself and explains how she keeps some plans under wraps to protect the discipline and consistency needed to keep the journey going.
